INSPIRATION LAKEVIEW

MASTER PLAN:  The Lakeview District lands in southeast Mississauga, including Ontario Power Generation's (OPG) former Lakeview Generating Station (LGS) site, will be the subject of a new Master Plan, according to a Corporate Staff Report presented to the City's Planning and Development Committee on December 5, 2011

The Master Plan, to be developed by the City, the Province of Ontario and OPG, will use the Inspiration Lakeview Vision as a starting point.  The report outlines a number of initiatives that could help residents and visitors experience the Lake Ontario waterfront in the short term, including access to OPG's western (former coal) pier (shown left), and a lakefill project to connect the Waterfront Trail to Marie Curtis Park in Etobicoke with a bypass south of the G.E. Booth Wastewater Treatment Facility.

VISION:  The City asked all citizens to come together to develop the Visionary Concept Plan for the Lakeview District waterfront and share ideas about the kind of waterfront we envision for the entire City.  The 200-acre waterfront site includes the provincially-owned 160-acre Ontario Power Generation (OPG) lands where the coal-fired Lakeview Generating Station (LGS) once stood (demolished in 2007).

On April 18, 2011 at the Planning and Development Committee of Council, the Draft Visionary Concept Plan [78p PDF] was presented (includes colour pictures, maps and diagrams).  The Vision will require political fortitude, long-term community support and creative economic solutions to bring about.

Peel Region intends to expand the plant by 2031 which will necessitate the acquisition of more land; citizens on the tour were told talks are in progress with OPG.
