Mississauga taxpayers wanted an independent Auditor General hired for oversight of their money – Council voted no

Despite months of resident engagement through the 2026 budget process, Council voted against the proposal and instead, a motion was introduced to hire two additional internal auditor employees to conduct a “Value-for-Money” audit within the City administration

Our communities believe that accountability and transparency are essential to maintaining public trust. When residents take the time to participate in the democratic process, their voices deserve to be heard. Residents’ groups will continue to advocate for stronger independent oversight at City Hall and encourage Council to reconsider this important issue in the future.

A great article was written by Anu Radha Verma of The Pointer which outlines what transpired and what may happen going forward.
